A Christmas Trail

Good News! A Shirley Christmas trail!

Michelle Godenho tells us about this new initiative

Shirley resident, Rachael Ronan, has come up with a festive idea that is new to Shirley.

24 houses around Shirley will decorate their houses with a Christmas theme, and each house will be given a letter to display. A map will be sold in a few of our local shops, to show where the decorated houses are, and, much like a treasure hunt, those buying the map will find the houses and take a note of each letter outside to make up a saying / phrase.

They will then take their map back to the place they purchased it from and return it, in exchange for a small prize. All profits will be going direct to our local charity, Shirley Neighbourhood Care, to help with their work supporting Shirley’s less mobile and older residents who need help to live independently and enjoy their lives.  This was decided by a vote on Facebook by all those local residents who have shown an interest in getting involved.

SPRA has kindly volunteered to sponsor the event and will be mentioned on the maps as way of appreciation.
Rachael has arranged all of this voluntarily, has already confirmed 20 houses, sponsorship and has found residents who have volunteered to make some prizes (sweet cones), all while giving birth to her 3rd child in mid-October. We hope SPAN readers will enjoy the trail and help us raise a substantial amount of money for our chosen charity. If anyone else would like to get involved please contact Rachel by joining the group on Facebook  – search for Shirley’s Christmas Family Trail.
